Online Exhibition #3 Geraldine Haas

25 April - 6 June 2016

The impressive photographic work of Geraldine Haas engages with the sculptural in human poses as well as in the stylized representation of nature. In her early oeuvre, Geraldine began documenting her immediate environment—her neighborhood, her mother, and herself—while examining gestures, poses, and the desire for self-portrayal in today’s society. Through a mixture of documentary and staged photography, she developed a stylized aesthetic, which she later transferred to the visualization of the botanical world. The exhibition explores this duality by presenting black-and-white photographs from her serial works BOTANICAL STRUCTURES (2016) and BODY STRUCTURES (2015). Without any post-production, the images demonstrate a strong awareness of form and a shared visual language, clarifying the central theme of Geraldine Haas’s work: plants and bodies become structures.
