Online Exhibition #4 Alexander Basile

25 July - 5 September 2016

Alexander Basile’s featured multi-channel video work „Ein Eimer, ein Arm, eine Leiter, ein Stuhl, eine Hand, ein Staubsauger, Licht und eine Berührung.“ can be considered a reflection of his artistic approach and working process. By presenting eight video sequences from previous works, the artist uses his archive to place already existing material into a new context. As the working title already implies, the compilation of images stands for collecting diversified impressions, producing novel relations between them, and understanding artistic work as a process. By giving banal objects and situations a formal aesthetic quality, Basile engages with the constant image production of contemporary society, as well as with the image itself and its modes of representation. Curating video extracts with a focus on moving body parts and objects in this exhibition illustrates once more his conceptual body of work. Images are used as fragments – the artist selects, combines, and presents them in different contexts at different times. The curatorial format becomes the artist’s own format.
