Online Exhibition #5 Iassen Markov
7 November 2016 - 2 January 2017
The online exhibition presents Technobeton XII, an exclusive and limited edition of furniture art objects by Iassen Markov. The edition consists of seven exceptional pieces that function both as furniture and as autonomous works of art. As the title Technobeton XII suggests, the series is composed of 100% techno and 100% concrete, reflecting the artist’s diverse influences, professional background, and the inherent duality of the objects themselves. Iassen Markov is an architect, designer, music producer, and above all, a conceptual artist. As part of his ongoing project Technobeton, this edition represents the transformation of techno beats into concrete forms, using corresponding materials such as concrete, acrystal, and acrylic glass. Built upon a single module, the series captivates with its eclectic style, defined by clear lines, unexpected compositions, strong materials, and bold colors. Influenced by modern masters such as Le Corbusier and postmodern designers like the Memphis Group, Technobeton XII merges contradictions, blurring the boundaries between functional furniture and visual art. The accompanying film Technobeton C can be understood as a digital reflection of the edition. Markov’s moving images function like a construction manual—a kind of “big bang” in which light generates objects and concrete forms dissolve into abstract sound waves. Two of the furniture art objects (BS and NT1) will be produced in a limited edition of 25 pieces each. The digital “sleepers” will be transformed into analog artworks—techno and concrete becoming one. Ultimately, it is up to the audience to bring the series to life and to convert the digital sleepers into physical art pieces before the online exhibition comes to an end.
